UPDATE - Stray dogs seen eating bodies of dead Covid patients as families throw bodies in river due to full cemeteries

Stray dogs have been pictured eating charred human bodies that

washed up on the banks of a river in India.

Due to the increase in coronavirus-related deaths in India, the country has been struggling to dispose of dead bodies. Cemeteries and crematoriums are overwhelmed and, as a result, relatives have been forced to toss the bodies of their loved ones into the river.

Residents of Uttarkashi in Uttrakhand, India, claim to have seen stray dogs consuming human flesh after bodies drifted onto banks of the river Bhagirathi.

One resident said he was painting by the river on Monday, May 31, when he noticed the dogs "gnawing and feeding on" the dead, MailOnline reports.

Locals are worried that coronavirus may spread further through the water supply or through the dogs that are consuming victims of the disease.

India has been fighting a serious third wave of coronavirus for a while now.
