UPDATE - Man to wash public toilet in Abuja motor park for 60 days for attempted fraud

A man identified as Innocent Destiny has been ordered to wash Mpape Park Toilet in Abuja

for 60 days by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, for attempting to defraud clients on messaging platform known as WeChat.

The suspect was accused of parading himself as a female by the name Kim Webber and inducing male users of the platform in order to defraud them of their money.

Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ijeabalum Diribe who argued that the act violated section 322 of the penal code, urged the court to convict and sentence Destiny according to the terms of the plea bargain entered on June 22, which stated that upon conviction he would spend a month in prison or pay a fine of N100,000.

However his counsel, Holy Nuhu prayed the court to temper justice with mercy considering that the defendant was young and a first-time offender with no criminal record.

Justice Kezziah Ogbonnaya who ruled on the case on Monday July 19,  gave him a non-custodial sentencing of washing public toilets. Ogbonnaya said the sentencing will help with decongestion of the courts.
