BlackBerry Exec: "Only Android as a Platform"

We don't need much proof that BlackBerry is starting to throw its lot in with Android, after-all the company released the Priv flagship smartphone rocking Google's mobile platform late last year.
It is becoming increasingly likely that the Canadian company will stop making hardware for its own BB10 operating system, and now a BlackBerry exec has pointed once more to the company adopting Android full time.
BlackBerry's senior director of Asia Pacific product management said:
"The Priv device is essentially our transition to Android ecosystem. As we secure Android, over a period of time, we would not have two platforms, and may have only Android as a platform [for smartphones]. But for now, we have BB10 and Android platforms for our smartphones...The future is really Android. We went for Android essentially for its app ecosystem. In addition, all the enterprise solutions that we have been doing have been cross-platform for a long time now. So it's a natural progression towards Android" -Damian Tay, senior director of APAC product management, BlackBerry
So, Tay is more than hinting that the company is moving to the Android side of the force with future hardware, and that BlackBerry?s own software may be going the way of the Dodo. Don't expect that to happen soon though as CEO John Chen has said the company will continue to update and provide security for BB10 devices through 2016, although no new hardware will be launched. BlackBerry will unveil a new smartphone on Android through, the "Vienna" is expected sometime during the second half of 2016.
