Chris Ubosi Beat FM CEO Sues Rihanna, Jay Z Over Cancelled Performance
Owner of Nigeria’s Beat FM radio station, Chris Ubosi has sued Jay Z and his management company, Roc Nation for reportedly cancelling a performance by Rihanna for which a deposit had already been paid.
The Nigerian concert promoter and CEO of
Megalectrics, owners of Beat FM and Classic FM, also claims that Roc
Nation has refused to refund a $160,000 deposit made by his company.
According to TMZ, Ubosi said he struck a
deal with two people who claimed to be Rihanna’s representatives. The
agreement was that Rihanna would get $425,000 to perform for 65 minutes
in Nigeria.
The show was slated to hold in May 2013
but after Ubosi had secured the date by forwarding the down payment of
$160k to Roc Nation, the month Rihanna was due to arrive, her
representatives said they had to reschedule.
Ubosi, in the civil suit filed in a
Manhattan court said he agreed to the postponement on the condition that
Rihanna would post the new date on social media.
When this did not happen, Megalectrics cancelled the show and demanded its money back.
TMZ further reports that sources close
to Rihanna claim that her management had no knowledge of the show and
that the singer never received the money.
A Roc Nation representative was quoted
by TMZ to have to said.“Rihanna, Roc Nation nor anyone. associated
personally or professionally with either party was in contact with this
person. Unfortunately this person was scammed. Rihanna nor. Roc Nation
collected no money for this event”
