UPDATE - The Most Anticipated Albums Of 2020

It’s been about three months into 2020 and while the year is not exactly new, we’ve been welcomed to a wide variety of exciting music projects...

Over the past couple of months, musicians like BlackMagic, Chike, and Olamide have dropped new bodies of music and most of these bodies of work have been greeted to a favourable response.

Some major artistes have confirmed that they’ll be dropping new projects while others are very intent on teasing their fans with snippets from studio sessions and tweets.

Whatever the case may be, 2020 will be raining albums and we’re excited about it – because it means a lot of music for our ears. Here are some music projects you should be getting psyched about this year.

Wizkid
At this point, it’ll be pretty much unfair to fans if Wizkid doesn’t drop his Made In Lagos album, seeing as the musician has had this in the works since mid-2018.

The last time he dropped an album was in 2017 when he released Sounds from the Other Side. He also dropped his debut EP Soundman Vol. 1 last year which was hopefully, a precursor to this new album.

While there is no official date and nothing known about the collaborations, Wizkid has confirmed that the album was done and one can only hope that he does not take the Rihanna route.

Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage had an amazing 2019 and there are receipts to prove it. She was signed to a seven-year publishing and distribution deal with “Universal Music Group,” giving her music more reach to the 60 countries where the label operates.

She also performed at tons of music festivals including “Wireless Festival” in the UK.

And to top it up, she was also featured on BeyoncĂ©’s soundtrack album for The Lion King. And that’s not even all.

The singer and songwriter also had some great singles including 49-99 which was highly praised for its colourful visuals. However, fans are very expectant that 2020 is the year Ms Savage gives them another album.

The last time she dropped an album was in 2015 when she released R.E.D. She also released an EP in 2017 called Sugarcane and had hit singles such as Ma Lo.

While there is not a name exactly for this album, Tiwa Savage has glued fans by constantly tweeting about the work being put into it. In January 2020, she said ‘Thank you, God, few days left to finish off my first album under UMG’. Vogue also listed this album as one to get excited about this year saying that ‘it will be ferocious’. We can’t wait!

Rema
The first question has to be ‘will Rema release an album in 2020?’. And then when you find an answer, maybe you’ll tell us.

This question is pertinent especially seeing as the young superstar has not one, not two, but three EPs and he’s only been here for a little over a year. Since then, he’s won the “Headies Award” for Next Rated Artist and appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer Playlist for his song Iron Man.

While nobody knows if Rema would spring an album on us this year, people are asking and even going as far as asking his record label for these things. Only time will tell.

Mayorkun
Check any of your favourite playlists with African music and you’re bound to find something with Mayorkun on it.

In a way, the singer and songwriter has convinced us with all his hit singles and we’re here for all of it. In 2018, he dropped his debut album called The Mayor of Lagos and won the “Headies Award” for Next Rated Artist that same year.

It’s been two years since then and the hits keep coming to this singer, so effortlessly too that we’re convinced he’s hacked it. We strongly believe that he’s trying to pull a Beyonce on us, but you really can never be too sure. We’ll be watching and waiting.

Which of these albums would you like to see? Who else are you expecting new releases from?
