BREAKING - Court Revokes Bail, Orders Arrest Of Mompha

 


The Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos has on Wednesday revoked the N200m bail of Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Mompha, is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy to launder funds obtained through unlawful activity, retention of proceeds of criminal conduct, laundering of funds obtained through unlawful activity, failure to disclose assets and property, possession of documents containing false pretence and use of property derived from unlawful act.

He was arrested, charged to court and later granted bail.

However, Mompha has refused to appear in court on two dates of his retrial.

At the resumed proceedings on Wednesday, Justice Mojisola Dada stood down the matter expecting the appearance of the defendant who failed to make an appearance.

Reacting to Mompha’s absence Justice Mojisola Dada stated that ”The excuse that was given that he tested positive for COVID-19 was found to be false.”

She subsequently revoked the defendant’s bail and ordered his arrest while adjourning further proceedings till June 30, 2022.
