BRIEF - Ronaldo called for Maguire to be dropped, claimed he’s part of problem at Man Utd

Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, called for Harry Maguire to be

dropped last season because he was “part of the problem” at the club.

The 37-year-old returned to Old Trafford last summer, but failed to help the club qualify for the Champions League, as they could only finish in sixth place.

Details have now emerged surrounding Ronaldo’s demands, from team selection to formation tweaks.

According to the Athletic, Ronaldo was part of a group of players who went up to interim boss Ralf Rangnick at Carrington in February this year.

Among them were Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba but Ronaldo’s message came through clearly when he said: “Maguire is part of the problem.”

Rangnick is said to have told them it was “inappropriate” to speak about Maguire when the player was not present.

Ronaldo also had a view on the team’s formation and wanted to play alongside Edinson Cavani up front, but his request fell on deaf ears.

Ironically, Ronaldo and Maguire have been benched under new manager Erik ten Hag, in their last two fixtures against Liverpool and Southampton.
