John Mikel Obi declares retirement

JMO, Ex captain of the Nigeria football team, says goodbye to football today.

The 35-year-old validated this in a write up posted on his social media pages.

He sincerely thanked those who lifted him to have a fulfilled career.

Mikel said,  “all good things must come to an end”, and for my professional football career, that day has come for me to focus on my family.

I flashback at the past 21 years of my career, and I must confess that I am more satisfied with everything that I was able to achieve and more vital the human it has helped shape.

“Everything would not have been possible without the undying support of my family, managers, clubs, coaches, teammates and most importantly my loyal fans.

“You stood by me through my ups and downs, even on days that I did not perform as expected. I say a big thank you and God bless y’all

“I will also like to motivate people who I may have touch one way or the other in the journey of my career to never back down on their dreams, for each time you think about walking out, rethink yourself why you started.

“In other words this is not goodbye, it’s the beginning of another career, another page of my life. I strongly believe to what the future have and I pray you will walk with me. Thank y’all so much”
