2000 fired from Customs due to dishonesty - CG

Over 2000 employees have been let go by the Nigerian Customs Service in the past seven

years, according to Hameed Ali, the service's comptroller general.

In the media briefing organized by the Presidential Media Team on Thursday in Abuja, Ali, who was a participant, stated that the service detests corruption and has no patience for such personnel.

He revealed that some of those found in violation had been prosecuted and imprisoned in addition to losing their employment.

Many of those who were shown the exit, in Ali's opinion, were later discovered to be underpaying the Service in its effort to raise money, particularly in regards to the customs and taxes that should have been collected from imported vehicles.

Additionally, the head of Customs disclosed that several importers who were determined to have participated in shady behavior that interfered with the activities of the Service had either been suspended or prosecuted.

While expressing his commitment to providing top-notch services, he expressed hope that his successor would uphold the standard.
