The police in Ogun State have detained Olaide Adekunle, a 33-year-old mother who

is accused of selling her 18-month-old child for N600,000 in order to pay back a loan.

Olaide Adekunle, a 33-year-old mother from Ogun State, was detained by police after it was claimed that she sold her 18-month-old child for N600,000 in order to pay back a loan from a microfinance bank.

The kid was reportedly purchased in Lagos by the buyer, who is currently at large.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesman, told reporters in Abeokuta on Monday that the suspect was apprehended after her husband, Nureni Rasaq, filed a report at the Sango divisional headquarters.

According to the husband, who was cited by Oyeyemi, the wife traveled to Lagos with their infant daughter, Moridiat Rasaq, in March but didn't bring her back.

The spouse, according to him, also claimed that all attempts to find out what happened to the child were unsuccessful because the mother was unable to provide any plausible explanation for the child's absence.

According to Oyeyemi, Dahiru Saleh, the DPO for the Sango division, promptly dispatched his detectives to apprehend the suspect.

He claimed that upon questioning, the suspect admitted to having sold the infant for N600,000.

"During questioning, the suspect admitted that she had sold the child for 600,000 naira (N) to a person in Lagos.

Oyeyemi described the husband as saying that in March, the wife went to Lagos with their infant daughter, Moridiat Rasaq, but failed to bring her back.

The husband further stated that the mother was unable to offer any reasonable explanation for the child's absence, which led to all efforts to discover what happened to the child failing.

Oyeyemi claims that the DPO for the Sango division, Dahiru Saleh, immediately sent his investigators to find the suspect.

He stated that after being questioned, the suspect acknowledged selling the baby for N600,000.

"During interrogation, the suspect revealed that she had sold the child to a person in Lagos for 600,000 naira (N).
