Three will be executed by hanging in Ekiti for armed robbery

 For conspiracy and armed robbery, the Ado-Ekiti State High Court in Ekiti State has

sentenced three people to death by hanging.

Deji Omotayo, 23, Ifeanyin Chidiebere, 25, and Bolaji Usman, 28, the defendants, were charged with four counts of conspiracy and armed robbery on January 21, 2020.

In giving his ruling, Justice Bamidele Omotoso stated that the prosecution had proven the accusation brought against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt.

"I firmly believe that the prosecution has established the defendants' guilt on the charge of armed robbery beyond a reasonable doubt.

They are declared guilty of the armed robbery offense and sentenced accordingly.

Omotayo Deji, Chidiebere Ifeanyin, and Bolaji Usman were given the following punishment by the court: "Be hanged by the neck until you are dead and may the Lord have mercy on your souls," remarked Omotosho.

The prosecution testified earlier in the trial that on May 6, 2019, the convicts broke into a private students' dormitory at Aba Erinfun, Federal Polytechnic Road, Ado Ekiti, and took property from the inmates.

Stephen Ademiloye, Temitope Olokuntoye, and Kolade Ajayi were among the hostel's residents who were robbed of their possessions, according to the prosecution's attorney, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, who testified in court.

Phones, a laptop computer, sandals, phone chargers, and power banks worth at N186,000 as of the time of the crime were among the items stated as taken on the charge.

The allegation additionally stated that the prisoners were carrying a cutlass and a wooden plank at the time of the heist.

Adeyemo summoned one witness and presented testimony from the victims as well as exhibits like phones and other items.

The defendants did not call any witnesses to testify at trial despite entering not guilty pleas to each of the counts that had been brought against them.

The Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. RII, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, was allegedly violated by the offenses, according to the prosecution, which also violated Sections 6 (b) and 1 (2) (a).
