US slaps visa ban on Nigerians who tainted 2023 election

Some Nigerians who harmed democracy during the general elections in 2023 are

subject to immigration restrictions from the US government.

This information was made public on Monday by Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state.

He declared via tweet that "we have imposed visa restrictions on specific individuals who undermined the democratic process during Nigeria's 2023 elections."

He reaffirmed the United States' commitment to advancing Nigeria's democracy and rule of law.

Last year, the United States issued a warning that it would apply visa restrictions on anyone who harmed the democratic process during the general elections in Nigeria.

Similar visa restrictions have previously been imposed on Nigerian politicians by the American government.
